The windows update medic service is a service that checks and repairs windows update components. This service also shows up as WaaSMedicSVC.exe in the service menu. It is usually recognized as a partner software to the windows update.

This is an important Microsoft service that is responsible for protecting the windows update integrity and preventing errors with the update component. Disabling it may cause data corruption along with missing important features and security updates.

We suggest you backup your registry settings before proceeding any further. You can disable the update medic service from the registry editor on windows. The registry editor is an integral program that allows editing low-level settings of your operating system.

The value 4 denotes that the service is disabled at the start. However, since it is an important part of the OS itself, the system automatically turns it back on after a certain period. You can keep these settings up if you want to manually download and install updates at your own leisure.

This entirely depends on how well you can navigate through your computer. Windows update is an important part of the operating system, and Microsoft advises against disabling it in any way. This can also be why there is no option to stop windows update.

I'm really desperate right now. With Windows 1803 Microsoft has integrated a new service "WaaSMedicSvc" which serves as a watchdog for the WindowsUpdate service.I have deactivated the Windows Update service in my environments for a good reason, because they are schools that only get updates during the holidays. In addition, all computers are equipped with a guard card - which means that after a restart of the computer, it is reset to its original state. (Only the administrator has the possibility to deactivate the protection of the card). That's why it doesn't make sense to update Windows in this environment with guard protection enabled. In the past I had two GPOs running, which I activated/deactivated on the maintenance day. One with "enable Windows Updates via WSUS" and another with "disable Windows Updates".The latter simply stopped the service and set it to "disabled".Now this service "Windows Update Medic Service" is spitting in my soup because my GPO is not working anymore. But I can't deactivate the Medic Service so easily -> access denied. In the net there are now some solutions with scripts of third party providers, but these are always related to the individual computer - I simply need a solution for companies!Other solutions I have considered, but which are not practical:Disable WSUS service -> WSUS does not sync anymore (Notebooks and PCs without guard card don't get updates either) -> nonsenseBlock WSUS port in firewall -> Clients get updates via DeliveryOptimization and play updates to each other - nonsenseNow I'd like to know what solution Microsoft is proposing.I hate it when microsoft with updates takes any control away from the administrator and thinks to be the better one.

Also, Microsoft added "Pause" Updates for 35 days which allows you to take an image backup once per month. I still prefer the registry method, when I am ready to update, I simply re-enable the Windows Update Service which I have disabled. The Windows Medic Service does not start due to the permissions setting. I apply updates every 30 days so I could use the Pause feature but I was worried I might go over the 35 days at some point.

Windows 10 offers less UI control over the updating behavior of the operating system than previous versions of Windows , There is no option to turn off Windows Updates using the Control Panel or Settings app in Windows 10, it checks for updates automatically and install any updates they find, whether you like it or not. This new feature is actually pretty convenient for most users. If you want control over the update process you can disable the Windows Update service . This requires that you open the Services manager, locate the service and change its startup parameter and status. You would then have to enable the service again whenever you want the operating system to check for updates (It does not look so easy).

1 way of preventing windows updates is not to use windows, switch to linux Ubuntu is pretty nice. Others have also decided to go back to Windows 7. I actually blocked this pos through the Microsoft firewall, these fools actually went into my settings and removed it like the virus they are. If you want to continue using this Hitler software package because of lack of options, its best to grab another firewall that is not Microsoft related and block it through their, and get back your choices, no one should be able to force you to do something you don't want to do.

We have several vessels at-sea, each with a dozen Windows computers, and a 2mbps satellite connection for the entire vessel. It was easy to turn off updates in Windows 7, but now that we've upgraded to Windows 10, it keeps turning itself back on and jamming up the pipe. These are NOT domain computers. How can we permanently disable Win10 updates until the next annual shipyard service?

It is not a good idea to turn off Windows Update when you could easily manage it and delay restart , take a look at: -us/windows/deployment/update/waas-manage-updates-wufb -us/windows-server/administration/windows-server-update-services/deploy/4-configure-group-policy-settings-for-automatic-updates Like it has been mentioned, you may disable it using the Group Policy but it will put your system at risk.
